Decorating Tip - Lighten up! Surprise is a common reaction exhibited by those who survey the finished result after accepting, for the first time, the opportunity to choose interior wall colors. The surprise occurs because the newly covered walls produce either a darker than expected room or a more glaring (as in a bold chartreuse) one. To avoid the surprise syndrome, first-timers might consider intentionally selecting a few color hues lighter than their initial inclination.

Premiere Carpets offers the Brewster, Blonder, Seabrook, and Blue Mountain brands of wallpaper. You may click on the logos below to see our wallcovering products.

Since the walls constitute a significant portion of an interior's visual presentation, it is not surprising that different wallcoverings can produce such different visual effects. There are multitudes of wallpaper patterns and colors. Generally, neutral tones and small prints tend to cause walls to visually withdraw. Narrow vertically oriented stripes visually suggest a higher ceiling. Conversely, bold colors and large prints tend to visually establish a wall. Wide horizontally oriented stripes visually compress the height of a room.

The application of wallpaper is not limited to drywall type surfaces. Wallpaper can be successfully hung on unpainted and painted plaster, sheetrock, paneling, cinder block and tile. Proper wall preparation should be performed prior to applying the wallcovering to any type of surface. While some skill is certainly needed, a person of medium ability can learn how to hang wallpaper satisfactorily in a single day.

A helpful glossary of wallpaper terms and definitions can be useful in learning the relevant nomenclature.
